babble history:

fish babble was conceived as part of the reclamation artists project "reclaiming draw 7". sited along the mystic river in somerville, ma, in the piece artists susan berstler, lee mandell and lauren o'neal recycled 5 computer monitors into working fish tanks.

the tanks were filled with real and surreal objects referencing the mystic and its inhabitants. native fish such as the alewife were replaced by over two dozen goldfish.

after less than a week, the tanks were vandalized and the fish killed. the artists reassembled the wreckage which was than on display for the remainder of the exhibition.
